Decision due on the Advertiser's Chuckle Square tribute

COUNCILLORS will decide next week whether to back an Advertiser campaign to rename a Rotherham square after the Chuckle Brothers.

The council’s scrutiny board will meet on Wednesday and consider our petition — signed by 681 people — calling for the tribute to Barry Elliott who died last summer, and his sibling partner in comedy, Paul.

The unnamed square where Effingham Street meets Howard Street outside Boots would be renamed Chuckle Square if the move is approved next Wednesday and rubber-stamped by Rotherham Borough Council.

Barry died in August last year, aged 73, following a short illness.

We asked if we could use our 15 minutes of allotted time in the council chamber to show an episode of the brothers’ classic TV show ChuckleVision to sway more support behind our cause - but the council knocked us back.
