The collision happened at about 12.20pm on December 20 when the silver BMW 316 Compact, which had been travelling towards Doncaster on the Great North Road, pulled out of a lay-by to perform a U-turn in front of a white DAF goods vehicle about 150 metres from Redhouse Lane..

The BMW spun on the carriageway, knocked down a metal road sign, and came to rest on a grass verge facing towards Wakefield. The lorry, driven by a 36-year-old man, remained on the road.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward. Call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 431 of December 20.
