Dearne station fights open ground fires

FIREFIGHTERS from Dearne station tackled two fires in open ground overnight.

One crew attended Cresswell Road in Swinton at around 9.30pm, when a ten-metre stretch of grass was alight.

They spent half an hour putting out the blaze, the cause of which is not yet known.

Staff from the same station visited West Melton at 3.30am, when a wooden container was burning in a field off Melton High Street.

They spent 20 minutes at the scene of the fire, which was started accidentally.
