Dearne litterbugs warned

DEARNE litter droppers have been caught and convicted as part of Doncaster Council’s blitz on the crime.

A total of 21 people were found guilty of littering in one day at Doncaster Magistrates Court in December.

And the Deputy Mayor of Doncaster, Cllr Cynthia Ransome, warned people those breaking the law that they would pay for the crime.

She said: “We work hard to make Doncaster an attractive place to live, work and visit so anyone who is caught littering has to pay for their actions.

People should take pride in where they live and act responsibly when visiting places.

“Ignoring a fine won’t make it go away and although people shouldn’t drop litter in the first place if they pay the initial fixed penalty this would be far less costly.”

Among those convicted was Richard Teum, of Taite Avenue, Edlington. The case was proven in his absence. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £167.
