Dearne litterbugs in court

DONCASTER Council is continuing its assault on litter bugs with a further 17 people fined in court.

Doncaster Magistrates’ Court issued combined fines and costs of up to £367 to people who failed to pay a fixed penalty notice for dropping litter.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet member for communities, said: “We are determined to show people that littering our streets is unacceptable.

“Ignorance is no excuse and refusing to pay a fixed penalty notice won’t make the fine go away, it will just make it more costly in the long run.”

Among those prosecuted were Leah Allen, of Clayfield View, Mexborough. She attended court and pleaded guilty. Allen was fined £75 and ordered to pay £25 costs.

Joanne Riley of Buckingham Road, Conisbrough, did not attend court and the case was proven in her absence. She was fined £200 and £167 costs.

All of those convicted were ordered to pay a victim surcharge of either £15 or £20
