THERE are just hours to go before the deadline to cast your vote for your favourite town centre shop.

Voters have until midnight TONIGHT—Friday, January 29—to pick a top shop and give them a chance of being crowned Shoppers Choice at the ACT for Rotherham business awards.

The ACT for Rotherham business group, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Rotherham Borough Council, has launched the initiative in a bid to recognise the hard work and dedication of town centre businesses.

The awards next Saturday, at Rotherham Rugby Club, are the first of their kind and will see 62 short-listed businesses going head-to-head in a range of categories with the winners selected by a panel of judges.

The Rotherham Advertiser has also teamed up with ACT to sponsor the prestigious Shoppers Choice award, which voted for by our readers.

We are asking readers to vote for their favourite shop from the short-listed 62 and thanks to a donation, Cllr Gerald Smith has offered to donate £200 to be shared between four lucky voters, picked at random, which they can spend in Rotherham town centre, but conditions apply.

Donna Tuxford, who has been helping to organise the awards, said that Rotherham town centre had a lot to be proud of.

“These awards are all about giving Rotherham town centre the feel-good factor and recognising the fantastic shops there,” she said.

“There are some really diverse shops in Rotherham and this is about supporting them and sharing their success.

“And it’s not just about the shops, we want the shoppers to get involved and share with us their positive experiences.

“We are also, with the borough council, encouraging people who work in the town centre to shop here. After all, town centre workers are ambassadors for our town.”

Act for Rotherham aims to make the town centre a prosperous, safe and desirable place to shop and work.
