Daughter accepts royal honour in memory of Herringthorpe school governor

A SCHOOL volunteer and governor has been honoured with a royal award.

Hilary Ford, who died last summer, was a loyal servant to Herringthorpe Junior School, where she was known for helping Year 6 students with their students.

And her service was recognised when she was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Hilary’s daughter Sarah McLaughlin was presented with the gong in a special assembly by the Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Mr Andrew Coombe.

A reading champions program has been launched in her memory at all schools in the Willow Tree Academy Trust and a new Hilary Ford Award will be presented to the most improved reader at the end of every term.
