Daniel Iversen staying? Jerry Yates coming back? Rotherham United boss Paul Warne has his say

THE impressive form of Daniel Iversen could help Rotherham United fend off Championship interest and hang on to their loan goalkeeper for the rest of the season, believes Paul Warne.

Iversen has been so good between the sticks for the League One Millers since arriving from top-flight Leicester City that second-tier clubs are ready to take him in the January transfer window.

However, Warne says the young Dane’s superb displays are precisely the reason why the Foxes may be prepared to leave him at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“I understand why other clubs would want him,” the Rotherham manager said. “If an amazing club came in for Dan then Leicester might think that it would do him good to go there.

“But I think Leicester are really pleased with how he’s playing here and the situation he’s in. He’s playing every week.

“More often than not, clubs don’t move their goalkeepers about too much. They are quicker to move strikers. I don’t foresee Dan leaving. I’ve heard nothing from Leicester.”

Iversen, aged 22, is on a season-long deal at New York but there is a clause in the contract allowing Leicester to recall him next month.

There is a similar arrangement in the loan deals that took Millers striker Jerry Yates to Swindon Town, centre-forward Jamie Proctor to Scunthorpe United and midfielder Matt Palmer to Bradford City

Yates, who turned 23 last month, has fired in 11 goals in 21 games in League Two but Warne is likely to resist the temptation to bring him back early.

“All the players who are out on loan are out to play games,” the boss said. “I’ll assess the situation later in the month but they may stay out if we get others in.”

In addition to Iversen, Rotherham also have midfielder Dan Barlaser (Newcastle United), attacker Carlton Morris (Norwich City) and winger Jake Hastie (Glasgow Rangers) on long-term loans.

“They’ve all added something at different times to our team,” Warne said.

“It wouldn’t surprise me that if Dan, Jake or Carlton don’t play enough games in December their parent clubs would want to move them. I understand that.”
