Crime blitz targets hooligans, speeders and thieves

YOBS have been warned that they face a continuing crackdown on anti-social behaviour after a successful joint operation in Wath.

Operation Collaboration resulted in eight fines for anti-social behaviour being handed out in the town’s Montgomery Square and police say it will be followed by similar operations in other areas of Rotherham.

Besides hooligans, the operation targeted litter, parking issues and speeding and advice was given to residents about vehicle and handbag security.

Chf Supt Jason Harwin said: “This operation was the first of many across Rotherham addressing the things that really matter to local communities.

“While we are seeing overall reductions in antisocial behaviour this year compared to the same period last year, we will continue to listen and then act to target those responsible.

“A small minority of individuals commit the majority of problems. Working with other partners we will use all the powers we have to address the problem.

“We not only target those committing the offences, but also ensure we’re supporting the most vulnerable.
