Cricket club thanks fire service after blaze

FIREFIGHTERS dealt with a blaze at Wickersley Old Village Cricket Club last night (Wednesday).

Crews from Maltby and Rotherham stations attended Northfield Lane at about 9.30pm.

They used dry powder to stop the blaze, which was in an electricity meter box outside the clubhouse.

The club described it as a small fire and said there was no damage to the facilities.

A post on Facebook added: “Thank you to staff members for their prompt action and the members for their co-operation, not forgetting the fire officers who dealt with the problem.”

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue recorded the incident as accidental, a spokesman confirmed.
