Crash outside Rotherham bus station

EMERGENCY services are supporting an elderly couple whose car collided with a bus on Wednesday morning.

A double-decker First vehicle, the 22a service to Wath, was involved in the crash on Drummond Street at about 8.30am.

A First spokesman said: “It is understood the car went through traffic lights at red. Emergency services are supporting an elderly couple who were in the car who are okay but shaken.

“First Bus staff attended the scene to support those at the scene.”

A police spokeswoman said: “It is reported that a blue Peugeot and double decker bus were involved in a collision outside the bus station in the town centre.

“It is also reported that a lamppost has sustained damage. It is not clear at this time whether there are any injuries.”

Daniel Frost (15) was on his way to school on another bus. He said: “It must have happened just a minute before our bus went past.

“The car was mangled from being crush. The bus drivers were trying to direct traffic and there was an ambulance trying to treat the other people in the car.”
