Covid-19: Rule of six revived as tiers make a comeback next week

THE LATEST lockdown will end on December 2 but restrictions will remain in place to manage the coronavirus pandemic, the government said today.

England will return to a tiered system next week as part of what has been called “the route back to normality”.

Across the country, regardless of tier, the following arrangements will apply:

  • The stay at home requirement will end, with travel being permitted again subject to guidance in each tier.
  • Shops, personal care, gyms and the wider leisure sector will reopen.
  • Collective worship, weddings and outdoor sports can resume.
  • People will no longer be limited to seeing only one other person in outdoor public spaces – the “Rule of Six” will now apply outdoors as it did in the previous set of tiers.

Which tier Rotherham is in will not be revealed until Thursday.

Before the current restrictions were imposed, the borough was in tier 3, with all pubs and restaurants closed and households barred from mixing indoors.
