Covid-19: Rotherham vaccination total passes 300,000 mark

HEALTH official Ian Atkinson said he was proud of the progress made by Rotherham’s Covid-19 jab programme — with 300,000 vaccinations carried out so far.

Mr Atkinson, executive place director for Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group, said 167,000 first doses and 133,000 second doses had been given since the programme launched six months ago.

“We’ve had a fantastic response in Rotherham,” he said. “We’ve successfully administered 167,000 first dose vaccines among the adult population, and of that number, 133,000 people have now been fully vaccinated.”

Mr Atkinson said the CCG was working with local leaders to set up further pop-up centres in areas with low take-up.

“We are doing increasing amounts of vaccine pop-ups in a targeted approach to reach people who may be nervous to come to one of our larger vaccination sites,” he added.

“This is something we’ve chosen to do within Rotherham to help make patients feel more comfortable by having the vaccine in a setting they recognise.”

The CCG expects to deliver 1,000 doses over eight pop-up sessions in the next couple of weeks, including at Ferham, Eastwood, Maltby and Thornhill.

Mr Atkinson thanked staff and volunteers for continuing their efforts in delivering the vaccines, as well as local leaders who had helped make the vaccine pop-ups successful and to the people of Rotherham for getting behind the programme.
