Covid scuppers Rotherham United v Lincoln City match

ROTHERHAM'S United home clash with Lincoln City has been called off because of a Covid outbreak in the visitors' camp.

The League One match had been due to take place at AESSEAL New York Stadium tomorrow night but will now have to be rearranged.

The Millers, who have so far been relatively unscathed by the new surge in coronavirus cases with only two staff testing positive, made the announcement at 6pm this evening that the match had been postponed.

A statement said: "Lincoln City informed the Millers and the EFL on Tuesday afternoon that they would be unable to fulfil the fixture due to a number of positive Covid cases in their squad.

"At present, Rotherham United are not aware of any positive cases within our own playing squad."

"A rearranged date for the fixture will be confirmed in due course."

Rotherham's next game is due to take place on New Year's Day at New York against Bolton Wanderers.

The Trotters have called off their last three fixtures because some of their players have been suffering from the disease.

Lincoln chief executive Liam Scully said: "We were able to fulfil Boxing Day's fixture despite having some players test positive for Covid. Unfortunately further positive tests on Tuesday mean we are now not able to fulfil Wednesday's fixture.

"We will continue to train and prepare as normal for Saturday's game at Ipswich Town in the hope that players returning to the group will allow us to meet the criteria to play."
