Court: Prolific shoplifter jailed for a year
A PROLIFIC shoplifter who targeted premises around the Dearne Valley has been jailed for a year.
Ricky Lee Bates (33), of no fixed abode, admitted at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court to 25 shoplifting offences at premises at Cortonwood Retail Park, Wombwell, Hoyland and Dearne.
He also admitted to a commercial burglary in Thurnscoe.
Bates was jailed for 12 months at a hearing on October 31.
PCSO Anthony Thorpe, of the Goldthorpe, Wombwell and Darfield beat, said: “Bates was prolific in his activities and South Yorkshire Police hopes this gives retailers and staff some respite from his offending.”
