Council to seek residents' views on sex establishments

SEX shops, strip clubs and lap dancing clubs could be banned from areas of Rotherham if a council tightens up its policy on sex establishments.

Rotherham Borough Council is planning to consult residents on where sex establishments should be - and where they shouldn't be - as part of a more robust policy.

It could lead to applications being refused near inappropriate locations, such as schools, places of worship, women’s refuges, play areas and family leisure facilities like theatres.

The council also wants to introduce regulations to ensure those working in such premises are treated fairly.

Many of them are self-employed and do not benefit from the same rights as employees.

The council's cabinet will discuss the issues at a meeting on Monday, November 19, where members are expected to agree to a public consultation being launched.
