Council looks to slash Rotherham show funding

COUNCIL funding for next year's Rotherham Show could be slashed by a third.

CASH-strapped Rotherham council chiefs are considering slashing their funding of the Rotherham Show by almost a third.

Rotherham Borough Council contributed £61,000 to this year’s showpiece event but has drawn up plans to cut this figure by £17,000 next year as it bids to cut £11 million from its annual spending.

The main changes to next year’s show could be a much smaller vegetable and flower show and fewer charity stalls.

A smaller printed programme and not using wooden flooring in the show’s largest marquee would also save thousands.

A report presented to councillors this week revealed that the horticultural show at the 2010 Rotherham Show cost £11,000 to stage but brought in just £341 through entry fees.
