Council garage sites earmarked for hundreds of new homes

DOZENS of council garage sites will be developed for housing over the next five years.

About 55 of the borough’s 350 brownfield sites will be redeveloped amid lower demand for garages.

A report to councillors said: “There are clear benefits to communities of having high quality new homes, rather than problematic garage sites in their neighbourhoods.

“But it is recognised that this will result in some garage tenants being inconvenienced and displaced.

“Therefore a clear communication strategy and protocol will be implemented to support garage tenants throughout the process.”
