Council concern after theft of dozens of drain covers

Rotherham Borough Council says the metal covers have been stolen from 24 different spots over the past six months.

Head of highways Colin Knight said: “People who commit this crime have no regard for public safety and the council will report thefts to the police. 

“We would ask the public to report any suspicious activity to the council on 01709 336003.”

A council spokeswoman added: “It is important that a report is logged with the council as soon as possible so that officers can inspect and arrange for the areas to be made safe whilst awaiting permanent repair. 

“Residents are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to South Yorkshire Police, including registration numbers of vehicles that may been seen acting suspiciously.”
