DON'T put used tissues in your green bin - that was the plea from Rotherham Council as they warned bin collection were being disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak.

RMBC said it would empty as many bins as possible but may not be able to cover the whole borough.

A statement from the authority said: "The coronavirus has had an impact on our waste and recycling service workers which means we are currently unable to carry out all bin collections.

"Our staff will attempt to carry out as many collections as possible. The service is reviewed daily so please continue to visit this page."

People should still put their bins out as normal and report all missed collections, RMBC said.

Residents were also asked to protect bin crews by following this advice: "Do not place used tissues in your green bin.

"If anyone in your household has a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus, put all used tissues and cleaning cloths in a rubbish bag.

"These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. After 72 hours, the bag should be placed in your pink lidded bin."

The council said extra waste could be taken to household waste recycling centres but the Advertiser has asked RMBC to clarify this position following the new restrictions on movement announced last night by the government.
