Coronavirus crisis helpline receives flood of help requests

MORE than 2,000 requests have been made by vulnerable residents to Rotherham Council for support since the coronavirus outbreak began.

By last Monday, there had been 2,007 requests for support, mostly for food and prescription collections.
But kind-hearted Rotherham folk have stepped up to the challenge - with 1,243 volunteering to become "heroes" by helping out.

Basic DBS checks are carried out before they are matched to residents who need support. Some 436 businesses have also pledged to help.

Libraries staff are also helping to send books to vulnerable residents through the Rotherham Community Hub support distribution network.
