PICTURED: Convicted terrorist banned from keeping guns jailed after air rifle found in Eastwood bedroom

Nicholas Roddis (34), who once planted a fake bomb on a bus in Rotherham, was found guilty of a firearms offence at Sheffield Crown Court today (Thursday) by a jury of seven men and five women following a two-day trial.

Roddis, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, kept a Power-Lok Spector SR05 — a type of air rifle — in his flat on Gray Close, Eastwood but he claimed it belonged to his mother.

Police discovered the weapon while carrying out a search of his flat last May, along with a machete and two fake guns which Roddis was legally allowed to keep.

Sentencing, Judge David Dixon told Roddis he had “a fascination” with weapons and the risk of those items was so great that only a jail sentence could be justified.

Roddis was banned from keeping guns after his 2009 conviction for planting a hoax bomb on a bus on Broom Road, Rotherham. He was jailed for seven years for planting the device — which comprised of a bag of sugar, a clock and wires in a plastic bag — on a Maltby to Rotherham service.

At the time, the court heard Roddis had become a follower of Islamic militancy after his parents’ marriage broke up.
