Concern over Georgie Kelly as Rotherham United head into opening day

ILLNESS could rob hot-shot Georgie Kelly of his chance to make his Championship debut for Rotherham United in tomorrow's opening-day clash against Swansea City.

The striker who was plucked from part-time football in Ireland in January has hit the target six times in seven pre-season matches.

He featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Sheffield United on Tuesday before going down sick.

The 25-year-old hasn't been ruled out of this weekend's AESSEAL New York Stadium showdown but there is no guarantee he will be available.

"Georgie has been ill, he's a doubt," manager Paul Warne said.

Kelly made a fairy-tale bow in English football in April, coming on a substitute for his first Millers appearance and scoring a late goal in front of a packed away end at Gillingham to seal promotion within nine minutes of his introduction.

Midfielder Ollie Rathbone is battling to overcome injury to face the Swans.

"He has been struggling with his quad, but I am pretty sure he will be available," Warne said.

Wing-backs Cohen Bramall and Tolaji Bola returned to full training yesterday in time to put themselves in the frame for squad places against Swansea who will be without their Welsh international midfielder, Joe Allen.

"They're not match-fit but they're ready to play 20 minutes," Warne said.

Meanwhile, the away match at Middlesbrough on Saturday September 17 has been switched from 3pm to a 7.45pm kick-off for live Sky TV coverage.
