Complaints over councillors’ allowances and management salaries top Rotherham Council consultation

COMPLAINTS about councillors’ allowances and the salaries of management were common themes during RMBC’s budget consultation.

Concerns about the futures of Healthwatch and Rotherham Sight and Sound were also raised during the five-week period.

There were a 1,181 comments — mostly through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube — about the £30 million savings proposals.

Assistant chief executive Shokat Lal said: “We have learned a lot from the social media engagement. It’s quite a good news story that we engaged further.”

Meanwhile, there were 76 responses to the online questionnaire and a total of 32 people attended the three drop-in sessions, which were all held in working hours. Just four people went to the one at Rawmarsh on November 21.
