Community spirit comes shining through...

MP ALEXANDER Stafford said he had heard “amazing stories” of community spirit as he visited the site of homes destroyed by fires in Maltby during last month’s intense heatwave.

A major incident was declared on July 19 as fires swept the borough — and the nation — amid record temperatures and homes in Hamilton Road, Maltby, were among those badly damaged by blazes.

The Rother Valley MP said he believed the community would return stronger from the devastating fires.

When he visited the area last Tuesday, Mr Stafford said: “Although the damage was devastating, with several people losing their homes, a swift response by residents, the community and the fire brigade stopped it becoming so much worse.

“I also heard amazing stories from the community of people opening up their homes to victims and providing water for the parched fire crews.

“Although Maltby has been damaged, I know the community will come back together to rebuild.”
