Community observes Ramadan traditions at Rotherham mosque

Dr Mohsin Ditta, Iftigar Ahmed and Imam Maysara of the Moorgate Street Mosque hosted a community iftar at which they broke their daily fast with non-Muslim guests.

During the holy month of Ramadhan, members of Rotherham’s Muslim community have been fasting from before dawn until sunset — around 18 hours a day abstaining from food and drink.

Among the invited guests were the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Cllr Chris Middleton and Mrs Ann Middleton and the Vicar of Rotherham, Canon David Bliss, who were were presented with and English translation of the Quran at the end of the event.

The event included a tour of the mosque led by Dr Ditta, a short talk on fasting by Imam Maysara and a talk on the Islamic Call to prayer, which marks the end of fasting at sunset, delivered by Iftigar Ahmed.
