COUNCILLORS and businesses in Maltby have teamed up in the hope of attracting more trade to the town’s High Street.
Maltby Town Council has set up a committee which includes business owners to look at ways of revamping the town’s shops.
Cllr Jenny Andrews said the group had held their second meeting on Monday and ideas included a best decorated window competition and an Easter trail.
Work is also under way to build a Home Bargains store and Aldi supermarket on the former Lantern Engineering site, just off Hamilton Road.
She said: “I think there are a lot of shopkeepers who don’t know what we do as a council, but now we have explained that we want to get trade into Maltby and promote business they are very receptive of the idea.”
Cllr Andrews said that Aldi and Home Bargains would boost trade even though they would not be on High Street.
“We need to work together to make High Street attractive to those shoppers.”
