Work is also under way to build a Home Bargains store and Aldi supermarket on the former Lantern Engineering site, just off Hamilton Road.

She said: “I think there are a lot of shopkeepers who don’t know what we do as a council, but now we have explained that we want to get trade into Maltby and promote business they are very receptive of the idea.”

Cllr Andrews said that Aldi and Home Bargains would boost trade even though they would not be on High Street.

“We need to work together to make High Street attractive to those shoppers.”
