THOUSANDS of pounds of cash and class A drugs were seized during raids at properties in Mexborough and Denaby today (Tuesday).

South Yorkshire Police's Operation Fortify team, supported by staff from the violent crime task force and financial crime unit, searched properties in Mexborough and Denaby.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs at an address in Hirst Gate, Mexborough, after officers searching the house found crack cocaine, an estimated £1,500 of cannabis and several ounces of suspected amphetamine.

Police found an estimated £10,000 in cash at a property on Denaby Lane, Denaby, in addition to a Rolex watch and expensive jewellery.

A 28-year-old man at the address was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

Insp Matt Cowling, from Doncaster’s Fortify team, said: “This morning’s warrants were carried out in relation to our ongoing work to tackle organised crime in the area.

“This includes the supply of drugs, being concerned in the supply of drugs and the possession of weapons.

"Items recovered from some of the properties today were an indication that there was potential links to organised crime and investigations are now underway.

“Our financial crime unit will also look at processing the cash under the Proceeds of Crime Act, if it cannot be accounted for.”

Both men arrested remained in custody, a police spokeswoman said.
