Class of '57 is sought
Mexborough Business Centre

ORGANISERS of a school reunion are eager to track down people who were part of the former place of learning’s Class of ‘57.

So far they have managed to trace just a few of the people who attended Mexborough Grammar School and are now keen to find more to invite them to the big event.

The reunion will take place on Friday, October 6, at the Mexborough Business Centre on College Road which is on the site of the former grammar school.

Organiser Joe Askew, who attended the school from 1957 to 1964, said: “We are planning a Mexborough Grammar School reunion to celebrate the 60th anniversary of all the pupils who first walked through those impressive gates on College Road in September 1957.

“So far out of an intake of around 180 pupils we have only managed to contact 20-25 people and we are all of an age where this will almost certainly be the last time a reunion of this scale will take place.

“We also realise that many ex-pupils may not be on social media or indeed have PCs so we are trying use different forms of communication.

“We were the last sixth form in the old school before they moved to the new Mexborough school.”
