CityFibre is bringing the fastest and most reliable digital connectivity to Rotherham

CityFibre is working to connect communities across the UK. We’re investing up to £4 billion to bring full fibre digital infrastructure within reach of up to eight million homes and 800,000 businesses, ensuring communities like Rotherham have the digital foundations they need to thrive.

In Rotherham, our £29m full fibre rollout is set to future-proof the town’s digital infrastructure and provide nearly every home and businesses with access to reliable, high speed and high-capacity full fibre broadband.

Construction work began in July 2020 and the network is now completed in parts of Kimberworth, Bradgate and Deepdale. What’s more, the first customers are already live and able to access gigabit-capable internet courtesy of purebroadband.

But what’s full fibre?

Smart homes, video conferencing, movie streaming, online shopping and gaming… there’s no doubt the digital age is well and truly upon us. But the more connected our world becomes, the more we need connectivity to help us keep pace.

Full fibre is the best technology for this important job. It takes 100% fibre optic technology (full fibre) all the way from the home to the point of connection, carrying data as light (nothing travels faster), unlike most other types of networks.

Natalie Ward, City Manager, CityFibre said: “Many people don’t realise that the dropped calls, lag and slowdown that we’re all used to are symptoms of the UK’s outdated infrastructure.

“In Rotherham, we’re proud to be changing this, with networks designed specifically for the digital age, enabling faster speeds, reliable services and bandwidth that can grow as we need it. The build is progressing well and we’re excited for more and more residents to get connected and tell us what they think.”

Adam Roebuck, the first resident to sign-up for purebroadband’s gigabit-speed broadband said: “I’ve probably got the fastest broadband in Rotherham and I love it. When I first heard CityFibre were building a new broadband network across the city, I couldn’t wait. I registered my interest on the CityFibre website and even sent a few emails just to ask about when it might be coming.

“I’m over the moon with the speed and reliability of the service as my previous 4Mbps connection struggled to manage multiple devices, especially at peak times. I went with the 200Mbps upload and download service and even with all nine of my devices connected I have never dropped under 190Mbps.”

As progress continues, CityFibre is committed to keeping local businesses and residents fully up to date on their plans. Anyone interested in giving their home broadband a boost can find out more about the build and register their interest at www.cityfibre.com/register-now.
