Christmas and New Year rubbish collection changes

RUBBISH collection days are changing in Rotherham over the Christmas period.

Residents are being urged to make a note of their altered bin day as dustmen are being given Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day off.

To ensure everyone receives a waste collection, some collection days have moved and may now be earlier or later than the normal day including Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holidays.

This table sets out the changes:

Residents will have their normal “alternate weekly collection”, with the black bin being collected one week and the blue box and bag collected on the alternate week of the fortnight.

For full details of which bin will be collected when over the festive period and beyond please visit http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/bincollections.

Rotherham Council’s advisory Cabinet member for waste, Cllr Kath Sims, said: “We know that the waste collection service is very important to all the residents of Rotherham and we hope that they take time to check when their collections are due to take place over the festive period.”

Householders should also look out for the new waste calendars arriving through their letterboxes and keep them for future reference.

All dumpit sites will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day but open every day until Monday, January 11 except New Year’s Day.
