Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman joins Rotherham United

ROTHERHAM United have brought in Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old will make a strong challenge to be the club's number one in succession to Daniel Iversen, who returned to parent club Leicester City at the end of the last campaign.

Blackman signed for Chelsea nine years ago, since when he's had loan spells at Middlesbrough, Wycombe, Sheffield United, Leeds and abroad with Ostersunds in Sweden and Vitesse Arnem in Holland.

His most recent stint came with Bristol Rovers last season when he made ten league appearances.

Blackman knows the area and the Championship from his time at Bramall Lane and Elland Road, where his stay was unfortunately ended early by injury.

Manager Paul Warne said Blackman was top of his list.

He told the club's website: “I like my ‘keeper to be big and brave and he's definitely that.

"It shows what sort of goalie I want. The goalkeepers I really like have already been snapped up by Premier League clubs.

"Marek (Rodak) was unbelievable for us for two years and the same with Dan Iversen. If I could have kept him for two years I would have but it wasn’t the case."

The club will now look to wrap up a permanent deal for another goalkeeper to challenge Blackman for the jersey.
