A COACH company has hit the road and raised more than £4,200 for two charities in celebration of one of their colleagues beating cancer.
Aughton-based Maxfields Travel rallied around their much-loved senior travel consultant, Allison Fox, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in April last year.
The 54-year-old had received treatment at both Rotherham Hospital and Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield and was given the all clear she had hoped for in February.
Allison, who has worked for the coach firm for 16 years, said it had been an incredibly tough year dealing with cancer and Covid-19.
“Everyone who cared for me been absolutely fantastic so this fundraising was my way of giving something back to them to say thank you.
“We’re one big family at Maxfields and I’ve been inundated with hundreds of messages of support which helped to lift my spirits when it really mattered the most.”
To celebrate Allison’s good news, Maxfields invited their loyal customers on seaside coach trip to Scarborough and Whitby — raising a total of £4,228.
The money has been spilt equally between the two hospitals.
Ben Maxfield (37), also a senior travel consultant at Maxfields, said the company’s fundraising in Allison’s honour exceeded all their expectations.
“It took just one email to our amazing customers to fill not one but three coaches,” he added.
“We had a waiting list for people who really wanted to get involved in celebrating Allison’s milestone, so we introduced a virtual coach trip too, where customers donated the cost of their trip.
“The response was unbelievable and a number of people have also shared their own cancer stories and personal health battles with us.”
Ben said that they feel really grateful to not only have Allison still with them, but to have raised so much money for two amazing charities and thanked everyone for their generosity.
