CELEBRITIES will turn out for a charity fundraising match in memory of a Millers fan.
Emmerdale stars James Hooton and Jay Kontzle, Hollyoaks actors David Kennedy and Owen Warner, and Rich Allen from TV show SAS Who Dares Wins will all lace up their boots.
The match has been organised by siblings Mark Rudman (37) and Leanne Harry (40) in memory of their dad David Rudman, who died following a short battle with pneumonia and liver and kidney failure.
Mark, of Wickersley, said: “My family wanted to honour my dad’s memory and to mark the anniversary of his death by doing something positive.
“We couldn’t think of a better way than a charity football match because my dad was a huge Rotherham United Football Club fan.
“There are some brilliant players lined up and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has signed up to take part.”
David’s grandsons Ryan and Josh will also take part in the match at the Phoenix Sports and Social Club in Brinsworth on August 29.
Funds raised will be split between The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity and Cash for Kids.
Mark said the fundraiser was to thank the “amazing doctors and nurses” who cared for his dad, also of Wickersley, at Rotherham Hospital before his death last July aged 66.
“We were devastated to lose him, but he could not have been cared for better when it really mattered the most,” added Mark
“We also love Cash for Kids as they do so much for youngsters in need in Rotherham.”
There will be family-friendly activities including a face painter, children’s games, refreshments and a DJ.
“We’re looking forward to a great day out where we can all remember our dad,” Mark said.
“If he could see what we’re planning, he would love it — but he’d also hate all the fuss!”
The memorial match is free to attend from noon and kick-off is at 1.30pm.
