The robber entered the Texaco petrol station on Wortley Road at 5.30am on Thursday, May 23, and purchased a can of pop.
"The man left but returned a short while later and approached the counter where he is said to have grabbed the lone attendant and threatened him with a large knife", said a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police.
"He demanded cash and made off with £110 on foot towards the Superbowl on Wortley Road."
The victim was left uninjured, but shaken up by the incident.
