The man and woman were asleep in the flat above Ellie’s takeaway on High Street, Maltby, at around 12.30am on Monday, May 21.

They were woken by four men in their bedroom, who demanded money before searching the flat then raiding the shop for cash.

Detectives have released CCTV (below) of three men burgling Bramley Mini Market on Flanderwell Lane the following night — they believe that the two crimes are connected.

Det Con Becky Straw, investigating, said of the first raid: “This was an incredibly nasty, violent incident which has understandably left the couple extremely distressed.

“We now need your help to identify the men in the footage as we continue with our enquiries.

“We’d like to speak to them in connection to what happened.”

The mini market break-in happened in the early hours of Tuesday, May 22.

Three men forced their way into the shop at around 12.25am taking money, tobacco and vaping products.

Police think the same burglars were involved in both crimes and want to hear from anyone with any information about them.

Det Con Straw added: “While I appreciate it’s difficult to see the faces of those in the footage, I’m hopeful that someone will recognise their clothing or mannerisms and come forward with information.”

Anyone who can help is urged to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident 17 of May 22.
