Cannabis farm discovered in Wombwell after cops attend house fire

POLICE officers responding to a report of a house fire in Wombwell earlier this week found a cannabis set-up in the loft — which officers warned could have been “fatal” in the extreme heat.

Barnsley South East Neighbourhood Policing Team said in a social media post officers that had been called to an address in Wombwell on Monday morning.

“We were responding to the report of a house fire. On arrival we were made aware that there was a small cannabis set-up in the loft of the property," said a spokesperson.

“Luckily nobody was hurt on this occasion, and no other properties were damaged. This could have been fatal in this extreme heat.

“Cannabis set-ups are extremely dangerous, especially as the electricity is bypassed frequently.

“If this would have happened in the middle of the night, the outcome could have been a lot worse.”
