CANAL TRAGEDY: 'We miss our beautiful boy,' says family

DISTRAUGHT relatives of a young boy who died after falling in a canal have described him as “beautiful and loving.”

Eight-year-old Matthew Cartwright, of Windhill Terrace, Mexborough, passed away at Sheffield Children’s Hospital on Tuesday (30).

In a statement released today, his family said: “We are devastated at the death of Matthew, which was a tragic accident.

“He was a beautiful, loving little boy and we miss him terribly.”

Matthew was pulled from the Swinton canal, off Talbot Street, the previous evening and flown to Rotherham General Hospital before being transferred to Sheffield.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances. A date for the inquest has yet to be fixed.
