A TOWN centre royal wedding street party will take place this Saturday – and the organisers need your help.

Rotherham market trader and event organiser Ann Savage is hoping to bring the community together at the celebration at the outdoor covered market from 11am to 3pm.

Ann, who runs Ann’s Candy in the indoor market, is appealing for donations to help make the party a success.

“I’m appealing for anything – cakes, buns, cups, paper plates, food, bunting, napkins, crisps, nibbles – which means that we can make it free for everyone to join the fun,” said Ann.

“We’re also on the lookout for a television or a projector so we can screen the wedding, we would only need it for a few hours and it doesn’t have to be a huge screen.”

Tesco and Home Bargains have already donated some tea, coffee, sugar, soft drinks and cups to Ann and fellow market trader Lyndsey Otterwell, of Pair Footwear, who is also helping to organise the party.

“We’ve got sandwiches covered as we’ve had lots of bags of cheese donated and we have some big long tables and benches we can use as well,” she added.

Ann said she didn’t want to miss an opportunity to bring the community together to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“We’ve had so much bad press lately we need people to realise that not everybody in Rotherham is bad," she said.

"We need people to realise there’s some damn good people in Rotherham – which is shown already by the generous donations we have had.

“I’ll make this happen by hook or by crook!

“Anyone who wants to fetch anything to us can visit me or Lyndsey at the indoor market, we’re here six-days-a-week from 8.30am to 4.30pm.”

Ann added: “Everybody is welcome – just turn up, grab a seat and enjoy!

“We are also hoping to have a bit of music and disco.”
