Call for volunteer snow wardens this winter

GRITTERS are seeking volunteers to help keep paths ice-free this winter.

Rotherham Borough Council wants tax-payers to de-ice footpaths and pedestrian areas, so professionals can concentrate on high-risk places like hospitals and care homes.

The call comes as part of the authority’s Love Where You Live campaign, which encourages residents to make a difference in their communities.

Volunteer snow wardens will receive full training, protective and high-vis clothing, a snow shovel and supplies of bagged rock salt.

Cllr Emma Hoddinott, cabinet member for waste, roads and community safety said: “We’d love to hear from anyone who wants to become a snow warden.

“You can apply online now and the council provide all the equipment and information you need.”
