Busy night as crews tackle blazes including car arson attack

FIRE crews faced a busy night after a car, grassland, and rubbish were set alight by arsonists.

Firefighters from Aston station were first called out to a deliberate grassland fire at 7.05pm on Hard Lane, Kiveton Park and spent more than an hour at the scene, leaving at 8.10pm.  

A crew from Rotherham station were then called to a deliberate fire involving cardboard at 8.30pm on Badsley Lane, Herringthorpe. They left the scene at 8.45pm.

Firefighters from Dearne station later spent half an hour at a deliberate fire involving cut conifers and rubbish at 10.15pm on Merrill Road, Thurnscoe.  

Maltby station officers then attended after arsonists set a car on fire at 12.50am on Charles Street, Thurcroft. The crew left the scene at 1.15am.  

Elsewhere in the borough overnight, a skip was accidentally on fire at 9.50pm on Henry Street, Darfield. Firefighters left at 10.25pm.  

Three fire crews from Rotherham, Maltby and Parkway stations attended another accidental fire in a bin store at 3am on Moorgate Road in Rotherham town centre, leaving the scene an hour later.
