Burglars raid five shops in 24 hours stealing £20,000 in cigarettes and alcohol

FIVE convenience stores were targeted by thieves who stole £20,000 worth of cigarettes and alcohol in the space of 24 hours. 

Detectives believe the incidents are linked and are appealing for information and are urging anyone who may have been offered stolen goods to come forward.

Police attended the first incident at McColls store on Worksop Road, Aston, at 3.15am on Tuesday (April 24) where four men had smashed their way into the shop, stealing alcohol.

The second burglary occurred just over half an hour later at McColls store on Fleming Way, Flanderwell, at 3.50am when bottles of spirits were taken.

The following day (Wednesday 25), the Londis Supermarket on Rotherham Road, Maltby, was targeted at 12.30am. A safe was stolen along with a large quantity of cigarettes. 

An hour later, two men forced their way into the Premier Stores on St Leonards Avenue, Thrybergh, at 1.30am stealing cash, cigarettes, e-cigarettes and e-cigarette liquids.

Then at 3am, the Premier store on Addison Road, Maltby, had cash taken from the till.

Det Con Jamie Crawford said: “We believe these incidents are very likely to be linked and need your help in bringing these men to justice. 

“Please give us a call if think you may have been offered the stolen goods or have any information about the burglaries.”
