A BURGLAR who attacked a man in his own home after climbing in through a window has been jailed.

Kyle Grimshaw (32), who was captured on CCTV at Westmoreland Lane in Denaby, was sentenced to five years and eight months.

The victim had fallen asleep watching TV in his living room and awoke to find Grimshaw standing over him. He was hit in the face multiple times.

Grimshaw, of Sussex Gardens, Denaby, fled with jewellery and a mobile phone after the incident on August 8, 2020.

Det Con Andy Gray said: “This incident left the victim understandably shaken. It must have been extremely unsettling to wake up in your own home with a stranger shouting at you and attacking you.

“Burglary is a key priority for South Yorkshire Police and we take incidents like this very seriously indeed. I am pleased that Grimshaw is behind bars where he belongs.”

The defendant appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on October 20 and admitted burglary and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
