Danny (38), of Munsbrough, died in March, a week after being attacked on Bridgegate in the town centre, and a series of events have been organised in his memory to pay for his funeral and support his nine-year-old daughter Freya.

Simon said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed with the people involved who have worked tirelessly for weeks for the fundraising night.

“The total raised is just phenomenal for Danny’s daughter Freya.”

The next event lined up is a charity fishing match organised by Keppel Angling Club — of which Danny’s father is member — at Lowfield Fisheries in Bolton on Dearne on bank holiday Monday, followed by a raffle and auction at the Keppel pub in Wingfield

Five people have been arrested so far over Danny’s death but no charges have been brought.
