ROTHERHAM United's Championship trip to Brentford was today called off as the Millers were hit by another outbreak of coronavirus.

It is the third fixture the club have lost to the pandemic, following the Covid cases in December that saw the home clash with Derby County and the visit to Middlesbrough postponed.

The virus is believed to be affecting players and staff. Captain Richard Wood was already self-isolating and missed the midweek derby victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

The EFL have approved the postponement of tomorrow's Bees game, and there is no news yet on whether Rotherham's match at Luton Town on Tuesday will go ahead.

The new date for the Brentford encounter is Tuesday April 27, kick-off 7pm.

A Millers statement said: "Rotherham United can confirm a number of positive tests for Covid within our first-team squad.

"Having consulted with club and EFL doctors and following discussions with Brentford, the club have been advised to postpone Saturday’s clash against the Bees.

"As a result, the Millers training HQ at Roundwood will also be closed with immediate effect in an attempt to control the outbreak of the virus."

Rotherham have also seen games called off because of the weather and face a packed programme between now and the end of the season.

Manager Paul Warne has said he is in favour of the season being extended rather than too many matches having to be played in quick succession.
