Boy due in court over town centre stabbings

A BOY is due to appear in court today (Monday) charged in connection with two stabbings in the town centre.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court charged with two offences of Section 18 wounding with intent in connection with an incident on High Street at 4.50pm last Wednesday and another on Spring Walk at 11.15am last Thursday, a police spokeswoman said.

A 30-year-old was taken to hospital with serious stab wounds after the incident on High Street, while a 39-year-old man suffered stab wounds in the Spring Walk incident the following day, said the spokeswoman.

Both men remain in hospital in a serious condition.

A second 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, have been bailed pending further enquiries, the spokeswoman said.

Det Insp Lee Wilson said: “We understand that these incidents will have caused a great deal of concern for the local community.

"Please know that investigations have been launched and our enquiries continue at pace.

“We remain keen to hear from anyone with information that might help our enquiries.
