Boy (11) hospitalised after Wincobank crash in 'serious' condition

A BOY remains in a serious condition after being hit by a motorist suspected of driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

The 11-year-old was left with life-threatening injuries after being hit by the grey Toyota Avensis on Jenkin Road, Wincobank, at about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed today (Friday) that the boy remained in a serious condition in hospital.

"The driver of the Toyota, a 24-year-old man from Sheffield, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs and failing to stop at the scene of an accident," said the spokeswoman.

"He was later released under investigation."

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 509 of September 24.
