Boss Paul Warne's dressing-room 'home truths' after Rotherham United win over Morecambe

The Millers ran out 2-0 victors though Freddie Ladapo's first-half double but needed the heroics of goalkeeper Josh Vickers to not concede after the break as the visitors refused to lie down and accept their fate.

“I have told some home truths to the lads,"  the manager said. "It is easier to be a bit more critical when you win.

"In fairness to the opposition, that is probably the hardest game we have had at home all season.

“They kept peppering our goal and it turned into a bit of a basketball match, which isn't like us. They kept putting it on us and I felt like we lost a little bit of control.

“I am sounding greedy but you always need that third goal."

Ladapo struck twice in the opening half an hour as the win saw Rotherham keep their six-point lead over Wigan Athletic at the summit of the table, extend their unbeaten New York run to 19 matches and record an 18th league clean sheet.

The visitors, who saw manager Stephen Robinson depart for St Mirren in the build-up to the clash, matched Rotherham for chances created in the second half and Vickers had to be at his best to keep them at bay.

Shrimps goalkeepng coach Barry Roche, who has been put in temporary charge, said: “The lads gave us everything. They are in their knees in the dressing room, tired from the shift they put in.

“Their keeper has pulled off some great stops and we have hit the post. I am proud of them. I can't ask for more.

“We knew how Rotherham were going to start the game. We switched off for a second and they hurt us. Rotherham are top of the league for a reason. At this level you can't give teams a two-goal start.

“I got a call from the chairman late last night asking if I would be the caretaker manager and it was always going to be a 'yes'.

“It's been difficult for everyone for something to happen so quickly like that but you can see that the players' reaction was absolutely superb.”
