PAUL Warne described a record-breaking derby night for Rotherham United as "a pretty good day at the office".

The Millers destroyed Doncaster Rovers 6-0 in an EFL Trophy group-stage clash at the Keepmoat Stadium this evening, their biggest win in the history of the South Yorkshire rivalry between the two clubs.

Rotherham scored three unanswered goals in each half as they handed debuts to five players - including striker Will Grigg, who was among the scorers - and ran riot against Richie Wellens' side.

Having beaten Rovers 2-0 in League One ten days earlier, the Millers heaped on the misery through Mickel Miller, Freddie Ladapo, a Louis Jones own goal, Grigg, teenager Jake Hull and Joe Mattock.

Manager Warne said: "I thought Griggy was excellent. Hopefully, people can see why I brought him to the club.

"His hold-up and link-up play was really good and he caused problems in the air. I thought Freddie played really well and was a threat in the air as well."

Debutant Hull was at first reluctant to claim his goal, scored from a Dan Barlaser corner, but soon changed his mind.

"Jake was excellent, although he was way too honest ," Warne said. "He said: 'I headed it, Gaffer, it hit my back and hit someone else and went in.' I said: 'Don't worry about the someone else.'

"I am obviously really pleased. We probably rode our luck to keep a clean sheet, but we'd made loads of changes.

"The lads needed some minutes in them in a competitive game. It is nice to think we can make changes and still put on a really good performance.

"I am not going to say I am not happy with a 6-0 win because I am. On another day, we could have scored more but not kept a clean sheet."
