Blaze destroys Meadowhall units

FIREFIGHTERS are still tackling a large blaze which has tore through industrial units near Meadowhall.

The unit, at Meadowbank Works, Meadowbank, housed an office furniture distribution firm and caught fire just before 7pm last night.

The flames then spread to three neighbouring units.

Around 50 firefighters tackled the blaze from ten fire engines sent to the scene.
Meadowbank Road was closed at the junctions of Oakdale Road and South Street while crews put the fire out and local residents were asked to stay indoors and close doors and windows to keep out smoke fumes.

There were no casualties.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
